SLG Celje - Alarms!

Emanuele Aldrovandi (1985) is a young, multi-awarded Italian playwright. He studied philosophy, comparative literature and drama in Bologna and Milan. In 2012 he began his collaboration with the Theatre Centre MaMiMò in his native Reggio Emilia. In the same year he won the Luigi Pirandello National Theatre Award for his play Happiness. Since then he has authored ten original theatre plays and more than ten theatre translations, adaptations, dramatizations and group dramaturgical interventions. In 2013, his play Homicide House won the most prestigious Italian prize for new playwriting. Since then his plays have been staged by many Italian and international theatres. He has worked with various Italian directors and theatre companies. His plays have been translated into English, German, French and Catalan.
Shortlisted for the Italian Testori award, Alarms! was written in 2015. The first Slovenian staging of Alarms! introduces Aldrovandi to Slovenian theatre, and marks a professional debut of the young director Nina Ramšak.
Alarms! is a parable about a group of neo-Nazi terrorists who intend to ignite a revolution by assassinating the European Union President. Lacking any faith in democracy, they hate immigrants and want to establish a new dictatorship in Europe. Keen on spreading their ideas, they are trying to organize a general assault. This should take place exactly at the premiere of the Alarms! The play features characters with symbolic names: Victory, Future, Attack, Command, Democracy, Position ... The play manipulates various sources, such as politics, philosophy, science, history, art and topical issues. It deals with the rise of neo-Fascism, immanent to the final stage of capitalism, recurrently invigorated and recharged during the times of crises (i.e. economic, refugee ...).
Alarms! is a highly topical, sharp and unforgiving play, presenting a portrait of Europe one believed, only a few years ago, was no longer possible to occur.
